      Hawaiian: “He lawai’a no Ke Kai papa’u, he polo eke aho; he lawai’a no ke Kai” “A fisherman of shallow seas uses only a short line; a fisherman of the deep sea uses a long line” Early sailors to the islands climbed the peak that frames Waikiki and found quartz-like crystals. They mistakenly believed them to contain Diamonds and in their excited folly gave that cinder cone the name Diamond Head. How often do we fall into the trap of mistaking the bling-bling and trappings of the world to be of real value?  We cling to temporal values that hold no worth at all. We pursue vain glory and things that will never satisfy but only leave us feeling empty. Hawaiian: “E ho’a’o no I pau kuhihewa” “Try it to end the panic” At the beginning of each big wave winter, “Clean Break” cast member Crazy Todd Robertson paddles into the first twenty five foot face of the season and, as he is about to drop in, instead of getting to his feet and surfing away from danger he steps up and leaps into the pit facing all of his fear in an act of total commitment of letting go.
